Pleated Workshop

I chose to create a wearable structure using the skills i learnt in the pleating workshop.

First i made a plain panelled strapless dress and also inserted a zip to make it easier to get into. and i made this to use as a base of my dress to make it easier to shape round a body shape.

After that i cut different sizes of the black cotton fabric.

And i started to create free style pleats.

Then i started playing around with the pleats on the base of the dress.

I tucked the top and bottom of the pleats to keep them more secure, for when i place it on the dress.

I used black thread so it wouldnt show and make the garment much neater.

I combined all types of pleats i learnt from the work shop and created my own.

 

Creating my final garment was fun i got to experiment with pleats and create new pleats and i got to show my creativity.

I used some of my research on other designers for inspiration.

I had to alter my dress because my model from my intial shapes that i did on the mannequin because my model had a different shape to the mannequin....

Rule Based Art

First  i redrew the shapes using the same rule from the exercise before.This Lesson was to start of with one shape, i started with a circle and when on the 5th rule start again from rule one and developing the shapes.
Added 5 rules
1) Start with a circle.
2) Add a square.
3)Take of a triangle.
4)Add a circle.
5)Add a square.
After drawing the pictures i traced off the shapes and played around to make 3d models.

Then i cut out my fabric out using the card template ....To make the fabric stiffer i glued the fabric to the paper...After the fabic and glue dried, i started experimenting on the mannequin and creating similar shapes from the Rule based art excersise

Creative draping on the stand...!x

For this lesson we had to demonstrate how creative we could get on the stand with draping.

step one.. press the calico
step two...cut out calico square 60x40cm
step three.. From top to bottom i folded 2.5cm in to have a straight finish and pressed it flat and marked the bust line from top 20cm and measured downwards, marked with a pencil. Pin down in the middle and the side seam.
step four... Leave 1cm gap for the neck lines and draw a line with a pencil and cut off the excess fabric.
step five...Snip the bottom of the bodice to fit the mannequin better.
Step 6...After doing the front panel i followed the same process for the back panel.

 

 

 
After pining the fabric to make the basic bodice shape, i started adding other pieces of calico and used different techniques like draping and pleating using an iron.

 

 

 I over laped some of the fabric to created different shapes.

 
I was very pleased with my final pieces...as the lesson progressed i got in the creative mode. I like how i structured the draping to a unique shape.

Alot of designers use alot of draping for their collections.here i have uploaded some examples.

 

In the asian culture draping has been a massive tradition.

They use the technique for alot of things, like weddings, parties, furniture and clothing.

 Asian attire use draping over laying specially on sarees.
